Reports emanating from Kollywood say that Sun TV has acquired the satellite television broadcasting rights of the upcoming films of the trio of top heroes including Suriya, Vijay and Ajith.
Sun TV, which was launched in the mid-nineties, still remains the ’emotional favourite’ of Tamils the world over irrespective of their political affilication as it was the first Tamil television channel to go on air after the Govt.-controlled television channels. Though many television channels have sprung up in the past 18 years or so, Sun TV still manages to retain its top billing among the audiences.
Sun Pictures, an off-shoot of Sun TV, was in the peak with its distribution-release network during the reign of the erstwhile regime in the State but it fizzled out once the AIADMK took over in the State in early 2011. Of late, though, Sun TV has been showing great interest in acquiring satellite televisio broadcasting rights of new films.
The channel has now acquired the satellite rights of Veeram and Jilla, Ajith and Vijay’s Pongal releases (in that order) and Suriya’s upcoming untitled venture directed by Lingusamy for an undisclosed price running into several crores.
