Last year, the Narendra Modi government set up a trust by the name of Ram Mandir Trust for the construction of a Ram Temple at Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. On Sunday, Samajwadi Party and AAP alleged that the Trust was involved in a real estate scam. The two parties claimed that a piece of land worth Rs 2 Cr was bought by the Trust for Rs 18 Cr.
On Monday, the Congress party joined the SP and the AAP. Amplifying the allegation, the Opposition party said that the Prime Minister is protecting those steering the scam. “The fact that top BJP and RSS members are involved in the scam worth crores of rupees offered by Lord Ram’s devotees raises one main question- will Modi ji protect them? BJP is faithful: not to Lord Ram, not to Lord Ram’s devotees, not to Bharat Mata. BJP is faithful to profiteering,” the party tweeted.
Alleging that a Congress activist was beaten up by the UP police, the Congress party wrote, “Lord Ram taught us respect. Lord Ram taught us dutifulness. Lord Ram taught us to keep promises. The manhandling of Congress workers by the UP police shows the BJP has learned nothing from Lord Ram’s teachings.”
Meanwhile, Keshav Prasad Maurya, the Deputy CM of UP, said that the Trust is already investigating the issue. He said that BJP doesn’t need any advice from those who have the blood of Ram’s devotees on their hands. It was an indirect reference to the killing of Kar Sevaks during the rule of Mulayam Singh Yadav in the early 1990s.
