A 17-year-old boy from Coimbatore’s Mettupalayam has been arrested after he allegedly murdered his father on Saturday.
The deceased man, A Karuppasamy, was reportedly an alcoholic. He was a retired army officer who would constantly subject his wife, Amuthavalli, to abuse under the influence of alcohol. Unable to tolerate him, Amuthavalli left to stay him to stay at her parents’ place along with her son 6 years ago. When she received a call from Karuppasamy on Saturday night, he allegedly verbally abused her. In a fit of rage, their 17-year-old reached his father’s residence and attacked him with a sickle. The father, who received a cut on his neck, succumbed to his injuries soon after.
The body of the deceased has been sent to the Coimbatore Government College and Hospital for a post mortem. The minor has been arrested and booked under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
