Official: Class 12 CBSE Board Exams cancelled

The CBSE Class 12 board exams for the academic year 2020-21 have been cancelled after a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday. Similar to the decision made for the CBSE Class 10 board exams in April, the Class 12 results will reportedly be made as per a well-defined objective criteria.

As per the PM’s statement, the decision to cancel the exams was taken in the interest of students due to the unforeseen situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Following a review meeting that was held on Tuesday from 5:30 pm to discuss the fate of the CBSE and other state board exams, PM Modi’s Office released a statement which read, “Health and safety of our students is of utmost importance and there would be no compromise on this aspect. Anxiety among students, parents and teachers, which must be put to an end…Students should not be forced to appear for exams in such a stressful situation. All stakeholders need to show sensitivity for students.”

The meeting chaired by the Prime Minister was attended by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar, and Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Chairman Manoj Ahuja, besides other officials. “CBSE will now take steps to compile the results of Class 12 students according to per well-defined objective criteria in a time-bound manner,” the PMO’s statement added. Further, a CBSE release stated that for any student who is not satisfied with the assessment, an option to appear in the examination would be provided by CBSE as and when the situation becomes conducive.
