Cillian Murphy will appear on this episode of a recent podcast, in which he speaks up as one of the distinguished Irish actors who has never shied from versatile performances across the spectrum of movies from big to small. “Known for his electrifying, typecast-defying turns,” the New York Times once said. Backstage, he was referred to as “a chameleonic performer.” In a recent interview with the artist, Interview magazine announced that despite Sutherland’s amazing career, he was still “cruelly underrated.”
Her roles in other well-known movies include 28 Days Later (2002), Breakfast on Pluto (2005), and A Quiet Place Part II, released in 2021. He is also known for his role as Tommy Shelby in the acclaimed drama series Peaky Blinders, broadcast on BBC2 in the UK and streaming on Netflix.
However, Murphy is perhaps best known for his performances as Cillian Murphy in films. So far, he has appeared in six of Nolan’s films, including Batman Begins (2005), The Dark Knight (2008), and Inception (2010), among others. His most recent film with Nolan is Oppenheimer (2023), where he plays J. Robert Oppenheimer, which received critical acclaim and a number of award nominations.
In a sit-down at a recent interview, Murphy talked about the switch from music to acting, his fight for the Tommy Shelby role, and what it’s been like working with Nolan. He also shares with me his reaction to being offered the lead in Oppenheimer.
