Nolan’s Opinion: Downey Jr’s Casting as Iron Man is the game changer

The biographical drama-thriller ‘Oppenheimer’ released in theaters this week, centering on J. Robert Oppenheimer and his involvement with developing the atomic bomb against Giuseppe Belli’s scientists. Starring Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, and Robert Downey Jr., it marked his return to the silver screen after three years following his successful work with Heath Ledger as The Joker in 2008’s sequel album of Batman Begins. In a recent interview with Cinema magazine, director Christopher Nolan spoke about Downey’s casting as Iron Man: 

In the film ‘Oppenheimer,’ Downey Jr plays Lewis Strauss. He called it the best movie for him to ever be in since he described his experience of doing this project as really exciting, calling it by far the very best movie for me.

Nolan had high praises for the casting of Robert Downey Jr to play Iron Man, calling it one of the best choices in film history. Feeling Jon Favreau had some vision and knew about how extraordinary RDJ’s acting was, Nolan said that it was a great decision and led to remarkable outcomes. The director respects the way Downey could resign himself to acting under tall orders of complexity and nuance his character asks him in ‘Oppenheimer’ considering himself as a charismatic movie star. 

Nolan believes that audiences will pleasantly be surprised to see Downey’s character because he is brilliant, and it’ll be a great performance by him given how much range and talent he possesses. 

‘Oppenheimer’  is a captivating movie with Downey playing Lewis Strauss, the intrigue just gets thicker in this historical drama. To see the legendary  ‘Oppenheimer’ portrayed on film is sure to draw out strong box-office interest.
