Famous Hong Kong actor-director Chor Yuen passed away on February 21st at the age of 87. Reports say that he felt some discomfort since that morning and passed away in the afternoon with his famly by his side. He is survived by his wife Nam Hung who was also a former actress who costarred with him in a few movies.
Chor Yuen who was born Cheung Po-kin in Guangzhou, China started his acting career in 50s when the Hong Kong made Cantonese films were peaking. His debut as an actor was in 'Madam Yun' in 1952 followed by his directorial debut 'Grass By the Lake' in 1959.
Chor Yuen acted and directed several films for the next three decades and his most famous roles in modern days was as a crime boss in Jackie Chan's 'Police Story' series and later in 'Miracles' and 'Twin Dragons'. He switched to television in the 90s and then faded out of public life. It was reported that he was suffering from dementia for the past few years.
Chor Yuen recieved the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 37th Hong Kong Film Awards in 2018. He said in his acceptance speech "When you look back on your life and are not regretful for having toiled in vain or ashamed for wasting your time, then you can proudly say to yourself, you have lived a life without regrets," Superstar Jackie Chan has paid rich tribute to Chor Yuen on social media.
