New films are rapidly making their way to theatres and streaming platforms, but Chiyaan Vikram’s “Thangalaan,” which was released on August 15, has yet to premiere on any OTT service. However, the film’s online release has been halted due to a public interest petition filed in the Madras High Court. The petition, submitted by P. Kothai from Tiruvallur, alleges that “Thangalaan” portrays Buddhism in a sacred manner while depicting Vaishnavism in a humorous light. Kothai argues that the film’s release on OTT could potentially spark conflicts between the two religious communities.
