People in Chennai over the age of 45 may soon be able to get vaccinated against Covid-19 at their doorstep if their apartment complex had more than 100 people above 45 who needed to get vaccinated against the virus.
The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) opened the bulk vaccination registration on Saturday and the registrations have been opened for big companies, communities, NGOs and resident welfare associations. Deputy Health Commissioner Dr Alby John wrote on social media, "If a company, apartment resident welfare association or any group can mobilise over 30 (above 45 age group) individuals, please fill this form. Chennai corp will schedule a vaccination camp. Vaccination for below 45 age group will be at a later date." Priority will be given to frontline workers and essential service providers during the first phase of the vaccination drive.
The Greater Chennai Corporation will reportedly bring its staff and vaccines to conduct the drive in a nearby location preferred by the residents. "Enough stock of vaccines is available and some more are on their way. If there are slightly less than that figure, then it will be done at the nearest primary health centre (PHC) run by GCC," a senior GCC official was quoted as saying.
