After 18 years of marriage, the Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, and his wife, Sophie, have made public their decision to separate. Trudeau's office released a statement confirming the decision and stating that they have taken all necessary legal and ethical steps.
The couple got married back in 2005 and has 3 children. They will be focusing on raising the children together in a safe loving environment. They will remain a close family even after separation and go on vacation together next week. Trudeau’s father, former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, also went through something similar about 1977 when he separated from his wife while being in office.
The Separation announcement comes a day after Trudeau's recent shuffle in the cabinet to improve his party's standing in the polls. The couple announced their announcement on Instagram and Trudeau's office assured that they have signed a legal agreement with joint custody of the children. Sophie will move to separate accommodation in Ottawa but will spend time with the kids at the prime minister's official residence, it added.
Sophie Trudeau reduced their joint appearances with her husband in recent years and signs of stress were clear. The Couple did travel to London for the coronation of King Charles in May and were together when U.S. President Joe Biden visited in late March.
