Actress Hansika Motwani has suffered a major legal blow after the Bombay High Court dismissed her plea to quash an FIR filed against her in a domestic violence case. The actress, popular for her roles in Tamil and Telugu cinema, will now have to face trial.
The case stems from the marriage of Hansika’s brother Prashant Motwani to TV actress Muskan Nancy James in 2021. Within a year, the couple separated due to marital issues. In December 2023, Nancy filed an FIR against Hansika and her mother, Jyoti, under multiple sections of the Domestic Violence Act.
The FIR invoked sections 498A (dowry-related cruelty), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 352 (criminal intimidation). Nancy alleged that abuse led her to develop Bell’s Palsy, and further accused Hansika and Jyoti of interfering in her marital life and pressuring her to sell her flat, which worsened the disputes.
Earlier, in February 2024, Hansika and her mother secured anticipatory bail from the Mumbai Sessions Court. They later moved the High Court in April, arguing that Hansika had been falsely implicated.
However, on Tuesday, the High Court dismissed their plea, clearing the way for the trial to proceed. This ruling marks a significant setback for Hansika, who now faces a prolonged legal battle.
The case has drawn widespread public attention, not only due to Hansika’s celebrity status but also because of the serious allegations of domestic violence and family disputes.
