HIV tested blood donor attempts suicide

We recently reported the case of the pregnant woman who contracted HIV after being transfused with infected blood at the Sivakasi Government Hospital.

Even though the donor wasn’t aware of his condition while he donated blood in 2016, he informed the lab technicians at the hospital of his condition as soon as he learned that he tested positive for HIV in November. The Health Department Officials who were then informed traced the donated blood and found that it had been transfused to the 23-year-old pregnant woman from Sattur. She was then brought in for tests, where she was found to be HIV positive as well.

It has now been reported that the 19-year-old, who had unknowingly donated his blood, has attempted suicide by consuming rat poison after he was made aware of the transfusion. The stability of his condition is unknown, although it has been reported that he has managed to survive the trauma.
