The Andhra Pradesh state unit of the BJP has said that it will be acting against those who post fake news about the Union government and the party on social media. In a public warning to social media users, the saffron party said that it will flag “objectionable and image-tarnishing” posts made on Twitter, Facebook and WhatsApp against the party, its leaders/members, and the Modi government.
“Criminal action will be initiated against those involved in the propaganda against the BJP and the Union government. We will be writing to your bosses requesting them to take disciplinary action against you,” the public warning reads.
The statement also appealed to everyone to share information about those who indulge in fake news and defamatory posts.
The party also hinted that a separate mechanism has been put in place to identify those handles that have been spreading canards against the BJP and its government.
