It’s known that, under the Jal Jeevan Mission, the Modi government has resolved to supply tap water to every Indian house by 2024. The budget of the scheme is $51 billion.
The news is that, as per government data, as many as 20 million households have been covered under the scheme in the last one year. The target of the scheme is to supply tap water to 15.70 crore homes.
A Gulf News report says that, even in times of COVID-19, funds to the tune of Rs 1,816 crore have been spent on the scheme in rural areas.
“More than a lakh rural households are being provided with fresh water taps each day since the beginning of the unlock period starting on June 1,” a recent Times Of India report said.
Commentators say that, when the nation goes to Lok Sabha polls in 2024, the Modi government will show Jal Jeevan Mission’s achievements as a major poll plank.
