A 30-year-old Uber driver was arrested by the Bengaluru police after he was found guilty of sexually harassing a female passenger earlier this month.
According to a report by a news agency, the victim, a 25-year-old techie, booked an Uber cab on February 1 at Hebbal and was on her way home when the driver, identified as Ram Mohan, pushed his seat back after reaching a junction near TC Palya and held her leg. The woman panicked and threatened to complain when he allegedly pulled her top and put his hand inside. When she demanded him to halt the vehicle, he reportedly sped up and informed her that he would not let go of her if she went to the police. When she obliged, he stopped the car and the panic-stricken woman rushed out.
She had not reported the incident to the police for a while, but later filed a complaint when her friends persuaded her. "The complaint was filed on February 11 but the driver had absconded. His phone was switched off for a while. We tracked the mobile signal to Hindupur, which is his home town and arrested him," the KR Puram police reportedly said. The accused has been booked under section 354A (outraging the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code.
