A man allegedly set himself and his family, including his wife and two children, ablaze. While the children died on the spot, the man, identified as Murali, and his wife were rushed to a hospital, where Murali succumbed to his injuries and his wife is currently in a critical condition.
The incident happened on Monday morning in Bengaluru’s Bakshi Garden and the victims have been identified as Kaveri, Srikanth, and Geeta. Their neighbours, who noticed fire coming out of the apartment, called the Fire Emergency Services personnel. Murali, who suffered 70 percent burns, died at the hospital, while his wife, Geeta, who has suffered 60 percent burns, is currently undergoing treatment. The police said that Murali and his wife had constant fights over his unemployment and alcoholism. “The mother was the one who was earning. The boy was in school and their daughter had just graduated from college. On Monday morning, too, the couple had a fight and Murali went out of the house, claiming to want some tea. He returned with a can of petrol and poured it on his wife and children. After setting them ablaze, he immolated himself. The Fire and Emergency Services concluded that it was a case of arson. The burn pattern shows that a combustible solution was poured on the deceased persons, which led to the fire in the house,” an official reportedly said.
A case of murder has been registered by the police while they are waiting to record the woman’s statement after her recovery.
