A fourth-year engineering student jumped to his death off the seventh floor of the Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru after reported harassment by the authorities.

The victim, identified as Sree Harsha, was a fourth-year Electronics and Communication engineering student hailing from Vishakapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Several students of the college gathered to protest against the college on Monday, alleging that constant harassment from the authorities and also his termination from the college led him to take the extreme step. Harsha had reportedly protested against water shortage and substandard food at the college hostel.

The management had allegedly accused Harsha of being involved in vandalizing the college property along with 50 other students. However, his classmates have claimed that Harsha was innocent and that he had no connection to the vandalism, whatsoever. The college refused to accept it and threatened him that he would never get any job offers due to the incident. The boy, who was pushed to a state of depression after his expulsion, decided to end his life, unfortunately.

Further, the students have also accused the management of covering the evidence of Harsha's suicide by removing the CCTV footage of his fall and trying to pass it off as an accident. The students have also alleged that the staff rushed to the spot and wiped off the bloodstains.

A case of abetment of Section 306 (abetment of suicide) and Section 201 (Causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information) has been registered against the college.
