“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” Sequel Teaser Drops: Fans in Frenzy Over Iconic Ghost’s Return

Brace yourself: that iconic ghost is coming back. A 1988 sequel to the Tim Burton classic “Beetlejuice” is finally happening at Warner Bros. Pictures, the studio teased in a preview video shared on Thursday.

The short clip carried within its scant few minutes the original film’s soul through scenes like the telegram warning, the musical number “Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)” by Harry Belafonte, and even the iconic shadowy score provided by Danny Elfman. Familiar settings are included, such as a red-covered bridge and an enchanted model town.

Winona in her role as Lydia—with her iconic black bangs, of course—is Winona Ryder, who will be joined by Catherine O’Hara, returning as Delia Deetz. The teaser features a new cast member in the form of Jenna Ortega, riding around on a bike, from Nickisworld Productions and Atlas Entertainment.

The acerbic trailer is rounded off with a dramatic entrance from Keaton playing his obnoxious character, Beetlejuice, and the ominous message, “The juice is loose!” Renowned after its more purposeful predecessor, “Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure,” which melded a triumphant mix of dark humor and invention, the first film was a favorite of critics and a commercial success that gave the cast a whole new level of fame. The hotly anticipated follow-up to the film, which stars Monica Bellucci and features Justin Theroux, Arthur Conti, and Willem Dafoe, opens in theaters this September 6.
