Twitter India has officially put out the list of Most Influential Moments of the Year (2017). Surprisingly, Vijay-starrer 'Mersal' was one of the top hashtag trends, joining the league of 'Baahubali-The Conclusion', which was predictably a top talking point in the virtual world.
By generating 1.7 million tweets in three days, 'Mersal' is a cut above the rest in South India. It seems that the political controversy stoked by the Tamil Nadu BJP over Vijay's character's anti-GST dialogue might be the reason. For days on end, #Mersal was used in one context or another with even Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan tweeting out their opinions on the issue.
However, everybody knows that, both in terms of cinematic popularity and collections, the Rajamouli-Prabhas-Anushka film far outweighs 'Mersal'. Proudly enough for Telugu cinema, Vijayendra Prasad is associated with both 'Mersal' and its runner-up, 'Baahubali-2'.
'Bigg Boss-11' was also a top hashtag trend this year.
