Is David Warner playing the Test series against India? Details

David Warner was formally ruled out of the first Test against India in Adelaide due to his groin strain. The left-handed batsman had injured his adductor muscle in the second ODI against India and had to sit out of the third ODI and the T20I series as well. However, Warner will be looking to return in the second Test against India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

David Warner recently informed that although he has made a lot of progress over the last few days, he wanted to take his time to ensure he can attain an optimum level of fitness for the remaining matches in the Test series. “I feel I have made great progress in a short amount of time and it’s best for me to stay here in Sydney to continue working on getting back to full fitness. The injury feels a lot better, but I need to be able to satisfy in my own mind and to my team-mates that I’m 100 percent ready for Test match conditions. That includes running between the wickets and being agile in the field. Right now I feel I am short of being able to play at peak fitness and another 10 days will make a difference,” the Australian batsman stated. Warner, who was in top form before the injury, had scored 69 and 83 runs in the first and second ODI matches against India, respectively.

Praising the batsman and expressing hopes of his return in the second Test, Australian head coach Justin Langer said, “He has done an incredible job to get to where he is today and we hope to have a fully fit David Warner at his absolute best in Melbourne. If there is one guy you know will go well above and beyond that’s Dave.” The first Test between the two countries is set to get underway on December 17.
