Arnab Goswami’s WhatsApp chats trigger a huge controversy

Arnab Goswami of Republic TV has been embroiled in a TRP scam case that is suspected to be a motivated attack on him by the Maharashtra government. Whatever is the case, his WhatsApp chats with former BARC CEO Partho Dasgupta have been leaked, putting him in an embarrassing situation.

In the controversial chats, which were reportedly intercepted from Dasgupta’s phone, see the Republic TV journalist boasting that all ministers are with him.

The chats have a number of instances of the former BARC CEO purportedly asking the popular journalist to reach out to the government on his behalf. Goswami is seen indicating that he has contacts in the Prime Minister’s Office, too.

In another instance, Goswami suggests that he has knowledge of the airstrikes on Pakistan and the repeal of Article 370. This is not a big deal, though. Surgical strikes were expected after the Pulwama carnage in early 2019. Only that nobody, including Arnab Goswami, knew that Balakot was going to be attacked. Also, the repeal of Article 35A was speculated widely on social media in July-August 2019. Nobody, including Goswami, saw the dilution of Article 370 coming.
