Pawan Kalyan on Tuesday shared the video clip of an English-language news channel that puts Andhra Pradesh among the States with the worst debt-GSDP ratio. AP has a ratio of 38%, which is almost as bad as the situation in Bihar and West Bengal. The ratio in Punjab stands at 52%.
The Jana Sena supremo tweeted that the focus of the YS Jaganmohan Reddy government has to be on improving the debt situation instead of bothering about non-existent alliances (of Jana Sena Party) and sending MLAs to do door-to-door campaigns.
The actor-politician cautioned that AP's financial situation will crumble a la Sri Lanka if the government doesn't wake up in time.
Recently, IAS officers cautioned the Central government about the deteriorating debt situation of Andhra Pradesh and a few other States. In March, news reports stated that the public debt of AP hit Rs 3.89 lakh crore in 2021-22 due an increase of Rs 40,000 Cr over the previous year. The problem is multi-pronged. The government has put the blame on commitments related to interest payments, welfare schemes, weakening revenue base, etc.
