Police sources said another person involved in the Salman Khan shooting case was arrested in Haryana late Wednesday. He is also said to have worked as a go-between for the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and the shooters. At 4.55 am on Sunday, two attackers on a bike fired five rounds outside the Galaxy Apartments at Bandra in Mumbai, where the actor stays, and sped away.
One of the accused, Sagar Kumar Palak, had taken a firearm from the Bandra area just a few hours prior to the incident taking place. Who gave him the weapon remains a question. Both hail from West Champaran in Bihar and were detained by Mumbai Police at a temple in the Kutch district of Gujarat late Monday night.
Palak and Gupta were offered ₹4 lakh by the police to execute the firing. For this, the duo was given an advance of ₹1 lakh. Officials from the Mumbai Crime Branch said the motive was not to kill but to scare Mr. Khan.
An official from the Mumbai Crime Branch said the survey at Salman Khan's Panvel farmhouse was much more to scare him than to cause any harm. The police in Mumbai are also likely to record Mr. Khan's statement as a witness to the case.
Yesterday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde assured full support with a promise for an investigation after Khan. Shinde has specifically laid down a concrete zero-tolerance policy toward gang violence and, in this regard, those belonging to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, as they had named Khan as its No. 1 target for an old incident pertaining to a Bishnoi member.
