Animal the biggest blockbuster in North America

Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Ranbir Kapoor created a box office sensation with “Animal,” a gripping tale of father-son dynamics intertwined with a revenge narrative that resonated deeply with audiences worldwide. The film’s success was not confined to India but also made a significant impact globally, particularly in North America (United States and Canada).

In India, “Animal” stands out as the highest-grossing A-rated film and the second-highest-grossing Indian film overall, amassing an impressive box office collection of Rs 553.87 crore, trailing only behind “Jawan,” which crossed the Rs 600 crore mark.

In North America, the film, which hit screens on December 1, garnered a remarkable US $15,001,042 during its two-month run at the box office. While released in multiple languages including Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, a staggering 95% of the collection came from the Hindi version, with the remaining from Telugu and Tamil. To put this achievement in perspective, Prabhas and Prashant Neel’s “Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire” concluded its North American run with US $9 million in comparison.

“Animal” has solidified its position as the third-highest-grossing Hindi film, standing alongside Shah Rukh Khan’s “Pathaan” (US $17.45 million) and “Jawan” (US $15.23 million). It ranks fifth overall, with “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” leading the pack with US $22 million, followed by “RRR” at the fourth spot with US $15.15 million.

Featuring a stellar cast including Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, and Triptii Dimri, “Animal” has cemented its place as one of the biggest blockbusters in Indian cinema, leaving a lasting impact on audiences worldwide.Despite mixed reviews, tremendous criticism, and an Adult certificate, the film captured the imagination of audiences, particularly young people, and became a box office sensation worldwide.

This suggests that the film’s appeal transcended critical and moral concerns. It tapped into something that resonated with audiences, perhaps its emotional intensity, its exploration of taboo subjects, or its larger-than-life characters and visuals.

The film’s success demonstrates that box office performance is not always directly correlated with critical acclaim or moral acceptability. Sometimes, a film’s ability to connect with audiences on a visceral level is more important than its technical or ethical merits.
