The Lord of the Rings is a series of three epic fantasy adventure films directed by Peter Jackson, based on the novel written by JRR Tolkien. It is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential film series ever made. The filmmaker also helmed a prequel trilogy based on Tolkien's children's book The Hobbit.
Set in the fictional world of Middle-earth, the films follow the hobbit Frodo Baggins as he and the Fellowship embark on a quest to destroy the One Ring, to ensure the destruction of its maker, the Dark Lord Sauron. Now, Amazon Prime Video has adapted the legendary artwork to make a brand-new spin-off web series. The spin-off show is set to be released in more than 240 nations in multiple languages including 5 Indian languages.
On Wednesday, the streaming giant launched the title announcement video of the upcoming spin-off show. The makers disclosed the name "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" with a visually pleasing video. In the video, a woman’s voice says, “Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky. Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone. Nine for Mortal Men, doomed to die. One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne in the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.”
The first eight-episode season of highly-anticipated epic fantasy series will debut on the streamer on Sept. 2, 2022. The episodes will be aired weekly. The show is set in the Second Age of Middle-earth before the events of Tolkien's The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings novels. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is renewed for future seasons too. This is said to be the costliest web series ever made.
The cast includes Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Maxim Baldry, Nazanin Boniadi, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Charles Edwards, Trystan Gravelle, Sir Lenny Henry, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Lloyd Owen, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, Leon Wadham, Benjamin Walker, Daniel Weyman and Sara Zwangobani.
