A seemingly innocuous ad has landed in trouble, thanks to the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC). In a recent Rapido ad, ‘Pushpa’ star Allu Arjun is seen drawing a comparison between Rapido bikes and RTC buses. He shows the former as convenient to use, unlike the latter.

The RTC management has taken a strong exception to the commercial by sending a legal notice to both the Icon Star as well as the bike app. VC Sajjanar, the MD of TSRTC, has described the ad as a demeaning one.
He suggested that the ad has offended not just the management of the RTC but also its commuters, admirers, and employees. He opined that ads featuring top actors should promote the use of public transport.
Usually, ads are not allowed to show any specific brand in a negative light. But it’s not clear if a public transport service can be named the way the Rapido ad did. Public transport, to be sure, has to be promoted. But it’s also true that the quality of services rendered by the likes of TSRTC is far from satisfactory. In such a case, customers prefer the likes of Rapido, which are convenient and also not very costly either.
