Akhanda 2 Premieres Cancelled as Financial Issues Halt All Shows Worldwide

In a major setback for fans and exhibitors, the premiere of Akhanda 2: Thaandavam scheduled for today has been cancelled due to unresolved financial clearance. As per the latest updates, no shows including early morning premieres can be guaranteed anywhere in the world until the issue is fully resolved.

Contrary to speculation circulating online, sources confirm that EROS is not involved in the producers’ current financial liquidity challenges. The roadblock arises from existing project commitments, with four stakeholders IVY Entertainment and three local partners responsible for clearing pending obligations before the release can move forward. This multi-stakeholder structure has further complicated the financial clearance process, resulting in a temporary freeze on global screenings.

Adding to the turmoil, a separate legal battle has escalated the situation. The Madras High Court has issued an interim stay preventing the release and commercial exploitation of Akhanda 2: Thaandavam following a petition filed by Eros International Media Ltd. The injunction halts all theatrical, digital, satellite, and commercial releases until further court orders.

According to case documents, the dispute traces back to an arbitral award passed in July 2019, directing 14 Reels Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. to pay ₹27,70,97,298 plus interest to Eros International. This award was upheld by a Single Bench, later reaffirmed by a Division Bench of the Madras High Court, and subsequently by the Supreme Court making it legally final. However, Eros informed the court that not a single rupee has been paid in the past four years, prompting concerns that the makers were attempting to bypass payment obligations through restructuring.

Fans who were eagerly preparing for day-one celebrations have expressed disappointment, though many hope the situation stabilizes soon. Insiders hint that a resolution may be possible tonight if all involved parties align financially and legally.

For now, the release of Akhanda 2: Thaandavam remains suspended across all platforms, and audiences await further clarity as the team works to overcome the dual challenges of financial clearance and ongoing court proceedings.
