AIIMS Director Randeep Guleria is not in favour of night curfews or weekend lockdowns. The medical expert is of the view that a 2020-style lockdown, which is aggressive in nature, alone can fight the ferocity fo the second wave.
Speaking to NDTV, he has proposed a total lockdown in areas where the case positivity rate is more than 10%. It may be noted that some cities are logging CPR to the tune of 20% to 30%. If Guleria’s suggestion is implemented, a lot of towns will be under complete lockdown.
Delhi, whose CPR is about 30%, has been under lockdown. Cities like Bengaluru are witnessing a strict lockdown for the most part of the day.
The AIIMS Director made the suggestion also keeping in mind the stretched nature of the healthcare system, besides the severe pressure faced by doctors, paramedics and nurses.
