AIADMK, which is the main opposition in Pondicherry, has demanded convening of a special State Legislative Assembly session to discuss the unprecedented the State is apparently going through.
AIADMK’s floor leader A. Anbalagan said that it was the responsibility of Speaker V. Vaithilingam to convene an emergency session. “The Govt. should seek views of all elected representatives and set things right in tackling the financial crisis,” he said.
Anbalagan also drew reference to Welfare Minister Kandasamy’s recent statement wherein the Minister had expressed fears that it would be difficult even to disburse salaries to State Govt. staff members. “If the Speaker doesn’t convene the session, we would meet Lieutenant Governor Bedi to do so,” Anbalagan remarked and added that something ‘urgent’ needed to be done before the situation went out of hands.
Chief-minister Narayanaswamy had earlier accused the BJP-led Centre of having ‘let down’ the Congress-DMK Govt. in the State by not providing enough financial assistance to meet the State’s various needs.
