The Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha starrer ’96’ directed by Premkumar and released in 2018 is one of the most highly rated romantic films of the new millennium.  In the film Trish played Jaanu who comes to Chennai from Singapore for a school reunion and by a turn of events gets to spend a night with her childhood sweetheart Ram played by Vijay Sethupathi.

Young actress Varsha Bollamma also played a key character of a trainee photographer who is smitten by her mentor Ram.  In the climax of ’96’ Trisha who is married returns to Singapore while VJS continues his life with her memories.

In an Instagram interaction with Varsha Bollamma a fan asked her that her character and VJS should have married in the end to give a feel-good ending to the film.  Varsha however replied that “You are not alone A lot of people ask me this question, but 96 is 96 because of the way it ended.”  She could not be more correct than this.
