The current two time Nagari constituency MLA Roja was one of the leading actresses in South Indian cinema during the nineties and early 2000s. After more than a decade of dating she married veteran Tamil director R.K. Selvamani in 2000. The couple have a daughter Anshumalika Selvamani and son Krishna Lohit Selvamani.

Anshumalika who is in her early twenties is already a published author, social activist and entreprenuer. A few weeks back there were reports that she is debuting as an actress in a new movie starring Dhruv Vikram in the lead. R.K. Selvamani denied the news as false.

Roja has now gone one step further with a clarification during her recent visit to Tirupathi. She stated "I actually want my daughter to become a movie actress and If she agrees to it I myself will encourage her. However my daughter has no desire to be a film actress. She aspires to become a scientist. So there is no chance for my Anshu to act in any movie hereafter".
