Veteran actress Kuchalakumari passed away on Wednesday morning due to age-related illness. In 2015 it was brought to the notice of former Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha that she was suffering in poverty and Jaya immediately sanctioned a sum of rupees five thousand monthly to her.
Kuchalakumari has the distinction of playing one of the lead heroines in ‘Koondukili’ the only movie in which the giants of Tamil cinema MGR and Sivaji Ganesan acted together. She was paired opposite Sivaji and later went on to act in Telugu and Malayalam cinema with superstars A.Nageshwara Rao and Prem Nazir. Kuchalakumari’s noted films in Tamil are ‘Parasakthi’, ‘Konjum Salangai’ and ‘Harichandra’.
