3 teachers have been placed under suspension for criticizing a sitting Judge of the High Court of Madras.
Justice Kirupakaran of the High Court of Madras took up the case relating to the protests indulged in by JACCTO-JIO, a joint confederation of State Govt. employees and teachers of State-run Schools. While taking up the case, Justice Kirupakaran had strongly condemned the striking employees in general and the teachers in particular, stating that they should work befitting the ‘high salaries’ they were getting.
A few teachers published brochures condemning Justice Kirupakaran’s observations and distributed them in Salem following which the Salem Town Police registered cases against 26 teachers and representatives of JACCTO-JIO. Govindan, Mayakrishnan and John Premkumar, who have been holding positions in the Teachers’ Association, have been placed under suspension for having criticized a serving Judge in public.
School Education Department has initiated this action and has served notice on 25 more teachers to explain their activities. These teachers may also be placed under suspension if their response to the notices is not found satisfactory.
