An alleged 40-year-old Zomato delivery agent was recently arrested after he reportedly molested a 19-year-old woman at the Yewalewadi area of Pune. He allegedly kissed her twice on her cheek after thanking her for providing him with water.

As per the senior inspector of Kondhwa police station, the woman in her complaint said that she had placed an order for food through Zomato. The delivery agent, after handing over the package, asked the girl for water. The official added, “The man then asked for another glass of water and when the woman gave it to him, he allegedly held her hand and molested her. When the woman raised an alarm, the accused tried to run away but some people from the housing society caught him and handed him over to police.”

The delivery man was arrested under IPC sections 354 and 354A but was later released on bail. Senior police inspector Sardar Patil said that further investigation is still going on. Meanwhile, Zomato issued a statement on the matter which read, “We have been in touch with the authorities to cooperate with the investigation. We conduct third-party background verifications while onboarding any person to our fleet and have a zero-tolerance policy.”
