Zindaggi Rocks Music Review

After a hiatus Anu Malik is back. The Himesh Reshamiyya blitzkrieg may be slightly thanda as the man-with-the-cap is rocking US. So, maybe it's time for Malik to make some lost ground. `Zindaggi Rocks' is not without its share of musical surprises, but still it's not Anu Malik at his best. So, brace yourself for a brilliant `Rabbi', an exciting `Ek Din Fursat' and a rocking `Zindaggi Rocks' but rest of the tracks are not really that happening to rise above the average grade. In fact, `Hadk Ko Adab Ko' is irritating and one has to make efforts to let it finish. If you listen to it in entirety, `Zindaggi Rocks' is a decent buy for the remixes of `Rabbi', `Meri Dhoop Hai Tu' and `Ek Din Fursat' have been produced very well too. But, Mr Malik, it's time you re-invented yourself.  

Kajra Re voice Javed Ali gets groovy with Tulsi Kumar in the sufi number `Meri Dhoop Hai Tu'. There's a resonance of love in the air with an amalgamation of an Arabic chorus sound with a western bassy beat going strong. Exotic Guitar solos, clap beats and filled- up music arrangements try and build up the spiritual love feeling. Sayeed Qadri's lyrics are decent as compared with the ordinary fare coming our way these days. But as a whole, `Meri Dhoop Hai Tu' is not really an exciting number. In fact it reminds you of `Mehboob Mere' from `Fiza' where Sush had gyrated to Anu's Middle Eastern flavour. Remix by Nikhil Chinapa carries a catchy beat. It's not really a club mix. For the beat is high on bass but it's not really high fever! Techno sounds and vocoder effect coupled with high pitched chorus makes for an orgasmic combination. The remix is definitely more listener-n-dance friendly as compared with the original.

`Rabbi' makes a strong beginning with a keyboard generated melody catching ear-fancy. If you look at Rabbi, then it has sufi connotations, but here it's been given hip-n-hopping groove by adding a dash of rappin-n-kickin-bass. Krishna chips in with a classical alaap to announce what one should expect from the fusion element of this song. `Ya Ali' man Zubeen Garg belts his powerful vocals while Sunidhi Chauhan makes full use of her raunchy voice too. Both the classical chorus and Sufi Style Rap dot the length and breadth of this number. Mudassar Aziz on his part has written heavy duty words for this sure shot hit number. The remix by Jatin Sharma Kicks Bass from the word go. Middle Eastern sounds, classical alaap, prolonged rap sections and Zubeen-Sunidhi singing vocals rock on a breathless beat. Sufi Style. Makes you smile. On the dance floor.

Anushka Manchanda starts the title track of `Zindaggi Rocks' on a rocking note. The infectious trendy beat with a Bhangra Roll to go along with it makes this song a happening number. Neat music arrangements with fun-filled fillers, makes this a hip-n-happenin track. Techno sound is peppered with high voltage electric guitaring and some husky voiced female chorus singers high on Joy-Quotient. This number is gonna be on the list of many a DJs this party season.

Now, cut to the best track of the album. `Ek Din Fursat' finds Sunidhi Chauhan doing something different after a long time. She has taken the middle octave route. I have been repeatedly saying it in all my reviews that she sounds spectacular while flirting with the lower-softer notes. Her voice like a boat gliding on tranquil shimmering water moves forward in an ethereal manner. The delectable piano notes hold hands of the milieu of strings. Sensuous female chorus dances on the floor of acoustic guitar and piano jugalbandi. After an exotic flute piece in the middle the song heads towards the crescendo as the rapid drum beats-n-rolls towards the finale. T
