The latest movie of interest to hit the theatres seems to be `Zakhariyayude Garbhinikal' coming from director Annesh Anwar. A movie which narrates  the story of four pregnant women, who pose problems to their gynaecologist named Zakaria is much better than the recent flick from Blessy which talked about motherhood and pregnancy.

The movie told by an unseen narrator (Indrajith's voice) presents us with four different cases of  Dr. Zachariah (Lal) . He is living a quiet , happy life with his loving wife Susan (Asha Sharreth). The only real sob story for then is that the couple has no children.

In the first of the case, which is exactly the same as one of the stories told by Kieslowski in his most popular `Decalogue' series is about  Anuradha (Sandra Thomas) who is going through an unhappy  life after tying the knot with an immensely  rich, but older man (Joy Thomas). As she gets  pregnant from his husband's friend, Anuradha is in a utter confusion whether to abort the child or not as her husband is currently in a critical condition facing death following an accident. Sr. Jasmine Jennifer (Geetha) who has came out of her life in missionary work become pregnant at 52 through artificial insemination, and is awaiting the delivery of a child, though the religious society around  her and her family is having strong  protests about her decision. The most peculiar case is that of  Saira (Sanusha)who  is in her late teens, but pregnant from someone, whom she doesn't want to disclose. She also need to deliver the child as a vengeance to the man who made her pregnant.  The fourth case is that of Fathima (Rima Kallingal), is the new nurse at Zakaria's hospital, who at a peculiar day is forced to lie to the doctor that she is pregnant. This helps her to avoid night shifts and getting cared by all in the circuit.

The movie definitely has interesting storylines which is presented in a delicious manner . There are fine moments all through the film, but some sequences  which are the heart o fthe film appear flat .The first track of Anuradha itself hardly engages us to the level of its original 'polish' film, mostly due to its punchless, plastic  lines . Many sequences in the later half also lags a little, though this may not be a problem for a patient viewer.  Rima's humorous track with her peculiar Kasargod accent makes the proceedings lively and serves as a link for all other stories.

The technical sides are the highlight of the film, especially the superb camera by Vishnu Narayan which makes it a worth watch with its heavily engaging frames and finally rehearsed moments. So is the BG scores by Prashanth Pillai which gives a fresh look to the visuals on screen. The art direction was also first-rate, but the editor could have applied the scissors a little harsher to push in the narrative swiftly. The songs by Vishu -Suresh are awesome with `Penne' and `Veyil' our pick. Every songs choreographed stunningly come up in the rightest moments are adds to the quality of the narratives.

The acting side are also effective with Lal coming up with an authentic performance. Asha Sharreth is fine as his wife, while Geetha is effective in the role of a nun. Aju Varghese also come up in a sparkling performance. Sanusha and Sandra Thomas are just okay and over acts occasionally, while the rest of the cast are apt in their roles.

Zachariyayude Garbhinikal is definitely a movie that can be a definitive one time watch, but one which could have been much better that what it is now.
