One music director who is going to rule the Tamil film industry in the years to come is young Yuvan Shankar Raja.
Undoubtedly, he is the one who is going to inherit the mantle from his father, Ilayaraja.
After A.R. Rahman moved out of the Tamil film industry, it has been in search of a dynamic music director, and Yuvan has filled the void. His latest album "Ram" gives an indication of the things to come.
1. "Ram" (Music - Yuvan Shankar Raja): This is Yuvan's best album after "Kaadhal Kondein". You have to just listen to the best song in the album, a lullaby sung by Yesudas, to understand the quality Yuvan is capable of. The song reminds you of "Kanne Kalaimane" in "Moondram Pirai", Ilayaraja's best lullaby ever and also sung by Yesudas. Every song in the album is a masterpiece.
2. "Kadal" (Music - Joshua Sridhar): The film is a success, so also the music. You hear people humming the songs wherever you go. The biggest hit of the album, of course, is "Thottu Thottu", belted out by Haricharan, Harini and Sudhaar. Joshua Sridhar's disappearance with his girlfriend surely has diminished his chances of utilising the success of his first album.
3. "Thirupachi" (Music - Mani Sharma): This is mediocre fare from Mani Sharma. The only popular song is "Kannum Kannum" by Harish Raghavendra and Uma Ramanan.
4. "Ji" (Music - Vidyasagar): What has happened to Vidyasagar? That is the question everybody is asking after listening to "Ji". He has not delivered a huge hit since "Gilli". "Kiliye Kiliye" by Udit Narayan and Sujatha is the only song that is worth listening to again.
5. "Devathayai Kandein" (Music - Deva): Another mediocre album in the top five. With the film doing decently, the songs from the album also have started appearing in the charts. Otherwise, there is nothing great about this entire album.
