Olakkunnathu Akhil (28), a native of Koorachundu Kalangali, was arrested for sexually and mentally abusing a Russian woman who he had met on Instagram. According to the complaint, the woman stayed with Akhil and was continuously subjected to assault during her stay.

The Russian woman was admitted to the Medical College Hospital after being found assaulted Akhil's Kalangali house. The police reported that the woman only spoke Russian and the assault came to light when her statement was recorded on Friday with the assistance of a translator.

The woman claimed that she was coerced into substance abuse and repeatedly beaten and assaulted by Akhil. She also alleged that her passport and iPhone were destroyed by the accused. According the Police statement, Akhil and the woman had met six months prior on Instagram and had traveled to Qatar and Nepal before arriving in India a month ago.
