A 28-year-old widowed woman's in-laws chopped off her nose and tongue after she refused to remarry a relative of their choice. The incident happened in Jaisalmer district of Western Rajasthan. The woman is critically injured and undergoing treatment.
Reportedly, the woman got married six years ago and was widowed one year after marriage. Since her husband's death, her sister-in-law has been allegedly trying to marry her off to a relative. As she refused to remarry, the in-laws started threatening her.
On Tuesday evening, the accused reached her house again to pursue her to marry his nephew. As the victim refused again, minutes later the accused returned with a dozen of his friends and cut off her tongue and nose. The victim's right hand was also broken. The victim's mother and brother are also said to be injured while they tried to save her.
Reportedly, there are a total of 13 accused including a woman who attacked her. The main accused and three others have been reportedly arrested.
