In a shocking news, a young Malayalam filmmaker Nayana Sooryan who had assisted many directors including the late director Lenin Rajendran was found dead on Saturday evening in her apartment in Thiruvananthapuram. After several phone calls by her mother went unanswered, she called up Nayana’s friends on suspicious ground who then rushed to the film-maker’s apartment.

After repeated banging on the front door of her apartment, using a spare key Nayana’s friends entered the house and found her lying unconscious in the bedroom. Her body is sent for the post-mortem and however the result will be ascertained only after the autopsy report. Sources close to her said that the sudden demise of Rajendran on January 14 this year also affected her.

Nayana had marked a space in the industry as an independent director through "Crossword", a 2017 anthology.
