Heroines who impressed the most in 2016

On the last day of the year 2016 we take a look at the performance of a top heroines of the film based on their number of films and popularity in the year.

Nayanthara

Nayanthara who is being fondly addressed as the Lady Superstar continued to be the numero uno female star of Kollywood. She gave versatile performances in different roles in the four releases she had in Tamil this year ('Idhu Namma Aalu', 'Thiru Naal', 'Iru Mugan' and 'Kaashnora'). 'Iru Mugan' her first film with Vikram is a blockbuster success while 'Idhu Namma Aalu' and 'Kaashmora' were average grossers. Nayan completed 13 years of her Tamil film career as a heroine in 2016.
She is presently part of multiple projects and most of them have her as the solo female lead. The list includes 'Dora', 'Arram', 'Imaikka Nodigal', 'Kolaiyuthir Kalam' and a yet to be titled film for Eros International. She is also playing the female lead in director Mohan Raja's film with Sivakarthikeyan as the hero.

Trisha

Trisha gave a tough fight for Nayanthara for the top position among heroines. The petite actress who completed 14 years of her acting career, acted in three films ('Aranmanai 2', 'Nayagi' and 'Kodi'). 'Aranamani 2' and 'Kodi' were hit films. In 'Kodi' the former Ms.Madras played a strong female lead character with negative shades for the first time ever and won unanimous acclaim from critics and movie buffs.
Trisha's probable releases of 2017 are 'Mohini', 'Sathuranga Vettai 2', '96' and 'Garjanai' the Tamil remake of Bollywood flick 'NH 10'.

Samantha

Samantha climbed many steps ahead in the star ladder with the blockbuster 'Theri' her second film with Ilayathalapathy Vijay. She also played the female lead opposite Suriya in the ambitious sci-fi flick '24' and this film was also commercially successful.
Sam is presently shooting for 'Irumbu Thirai' with Vishal and director Thiagarajan Kumararaja's yet to be titled film with Vijay Sethupathi and Fahad Faasil. She is also rumored to be in talks for 'Thalapathy 61' with Ilayathalapathy Vijay and the Tamil-Telugu bilingual biopic on veteran actress Savithri. She has signed up to play the female lead of Sivakarthikeyan in director Ponram's film for which she will start shooting in 2017.

Tamannah

For Tamannah, 2016 is the year in which she proved her versatility as a performer. She had four release in Tamil this year ('Thozha', 'Dharmadurai', 'Devi' and 'Kaththi Sandai'). The first three were super hits and her performances in them were praised by fans and critics.
Tamannah's big ticket project 'Baahubali 2' will be released in April 2017. She is presently shooting for 'Anbanavan Asaradhavan Adangadhavan' with Silambarasan, She will also be seen in the lead role in the Tamil remake of Bollywood blockbuster 'Queen'.

Keerthy Suresh

Keerthy Suresh is the revelation of the year. She played the female lead in the year's first super hit flick 'Rajini Murugan' and continued her success streak with Sivakarthikeyan in the blockbuster hit 'Remo'. 'Thodari' with Dhanush was a misfire.
Keerthy Suresh will be staring her account in 2017 with Ilayathalapathy Vijay's 'Bairavaa' scheduled to hit the screens for Pongal 2017. She is also acting with Suriya in 'Taana Serndha Koottam' . 'Paambu Sattai' which was supposed to be her debut film in Tamil is expected to hit the screens in early 2017
Fans can expect to have at least two and a maximum of three Vikram starrer to hit the screens in 2017.

Aishwarya Rajesh

Aishwarya Rajesh has become the most sought after heroine for performance oriented lead characters. She had eight releases ('Aarathu Sinam', 'Hello Naan Pei Pesukiren', 'Manithan', 'Dharmadurai', 'Kutramey Thanadani', 'Kadalai', 'Parandhu Sellava' and 'Mo') which is the maximum number for any heroine in Tamil. Her performances in 'Manithan' and 'Dharmadurai' won critical acclaim and these are also the two hit films for her.
Aishwarya Rajesh has completed 'Kattappava Kanom' with Sibiraj which is expected to be her first release in 2017. She is presently shooting for 'Gemini Ganesanum Surulirajanum' with Atharvaa.

Promising Debutantes of the year

The year produced quite a few promising debutantes- Ritika Singh ('Irudhi Suttru', 'Aandavan Kattalai'), Madonna Sebastian ('Kadhalum Kadandhu Pogum'), Nivetha Pethuraj ('Oru Naal Koothu'), Nikhila Vimal ('Vetrivel', 'Kidaari) and Manjima Mohan (Achcham Yenbathu Madamaiyada')
