Jana Sena and BJP today released a joint manifesto ahead of the local body polls in Andhra Pradesh. Speaking there, the leaders of both parties lamented that democracy is in danger in the State, thanks to the violence unleashed by goons backed by the ruling party.
Speaking at the presser, Pawan Kalyan said, "Local body self-governance is essential for decentralization and all-round development. Free and fair elections to local bodies is a must. The previous government had cancelled polls altogether. The present government led by YCP is resorting to intimidation and violence against opponents."
"Jana Sena and BJP vehemently oppose the criminalization of politics. We have resolved to provide a platform for youths with no political background. In districts like Chittoor, candidates are scared of filing nominations. Why are they (YCP) so insecure when they have 151 MLAs in the Assembly? May be, we need strong Election Commission leadership like TN Seshan's," Pawan added.
"A victory won through foul means won't last long. Democracy can't be built on the foundation of violence. I urge everyone to be brave and courageous in the face of violence. No candidate should withdraw their nominations. Stand up, be firm. Don't be intimidated. It's time to nip the YCP rowdyism in the bud," the Jana Sena chief said.
"In Delhi, senior media persons have started saying that Andhra Pradesh is becoming another Bihar (of Laloo's days) in terms of violence. Investments are not flowing in. Farmers are being threatened with threats of false cases," Pawan alleged.
