YCP government is tapping phones of opposition leaders, media persons: Chandrababu Naidu

Nara Chandrababu Naidu has written to Narendra Modi on the alleged phone-tapping by the YSRCP government. The TDP chief has said in the letter that the phones of TDP leaders and social activities have been illegally tapped by the Jagan-led government in violation of Articles 19 and 21 (Fundamental Rigths).

The former Chief Minister also stated in the letter that the phones of several advocates and media persons, too, have been tapped into by the administration. In his letter to the Prime Minister, CBN added that this has been done for political purposes.

As per the opposition leader, "illegal software" has been deployed for the purpose. "Telephone tapping as per the Indian Telegraph Act and the Information Technology Act can be done only in the case of threat to national security or in the interests of the soveriengty and integrity of India, threat to firendly relations with foreign countries," the letter observed.

"In this backdrop, we appeal to you to initiate immediate and stern action in order to check any further unlawful activities by the ruling party and private persons in AP. Therefore, it would be appropriate to order an enquiry by a competent body of the government of India in order to check the ilegal acts of phone tapping in AP," CBN added.
