Eminent novelist Yaddanapudi Sulochana Rani, known for her gripping story-telling abilities, passed away in California, USA, earlier today (IST). Reportedly, her family members have confirmed the news of her death. She died of heart attack.

Fondly called by her fans as Yaddanapudi, the creative genius penned novels that touched the heart of the middle-class reader. Her heyday was the 1970s.

Born in 1940 in Krishna district's Kaza, she was also an acclaimed playwright. 'Meena', 'Jeevana Tarangalu', 'Secretary', 'Radha Krishna', 'Agni Poolu', 'Chandi Priya', 'Vijetha', 'Prema Lekhalu', 'Aatma Gauravam', and 'Aatmeeyulu' were some of her best-selling novels. These were also adapted into films.

Her novels reflect her circumstances and bring out her sharp contemplations and incisive observations. Sociologically, her novels spoke of the changing lifestyles in a changing Indian society.

The emotional bonding between married couples, familial relationships, the mindset of middle-class girls, etc were there as an undercurrent in her different novels.

Her first tryst with Telugu cinema was with 'Chaduvukunna Ammayilu'. Later, she penned the story for the film 'Manushulu-Mamathalu' in 1965. 'Secretary' was so popular that many youngsters idolized the film's characters.
