'Pushpa: The Rise' has got five songs in total. Each of them has been penned by Chandrabose. In this interview, the acclaimed lyricist talks about the experience of writing lyrics for the Allu Arjun-Sukumar movie.
Excerpts
When I write lyrics for a Sukumar garu movie, I get tensed. It's because he is a poet himself. He conceives something and keeps on giving inputs. It becomes hard to stop the flow of thoughts from his mind!
Writing songs for this particular movie was especially challenging because the characters speak in the Chittoor slang. So, the lyrics, too, must reflect the nativity. Initially, I was scared. But I later got courage. I have seen three scenes from the movie. I was stunned. Allu Arjun garu and Sukumar garu are dedicated completely. It's amazing that the hero, who grew up in Chennai and has lived in Hyderabad for many years, has aced the Chittoor slang. He comes from an affluent family. He has learned from scratch for this movie with total dedication.
'Saami Saami' song was conceived because Pushpa Raj calls Srivalli 'Ammi' in the movie. I am good friends with composer Devi Sri Prasad and director Sukumar garu. For 'Rangasthalam', I merely dictated the lines. They were not written on paper at all.
Writing for 'Rangasthalam' was a different experience. Chitti Babu (Ram Charan) was a different person. Pushpa Raj is a different person. He is rugged and is high on ego. He sees himself as a great man. When he falls for Srivalli, he makes it obvious that someone above love is after a girl.
I usually get compliments from my colleagues in the film industry. Youngsters, especially, have loved the songs in 'Pushpa'. Allu Arjun garu's dance moves will be very special in the movie.
The special song (shot on Bunny and Samantha) will be a story about a social issue. Samantha garu's acting and dance moves are going to take the song to the next level. The singer is also a newcomer and is related to a well-known singer. The singer will go places. My special songs have been like stories.
Tune is what beautifies a song. Word was born first before music. Music elevates the word.
These days, folk singers are finding a voice in films. It's because rooted stories are being made increasingly. If native singers are chosen, the song sounds authentic.
It's only in the digital era that we are talking about views and records. These things were not there before. This is just a race.
