India will soon host an international cricket match at the Sardar Patel Gujarat Stadium at Motera near Ahmedabad. This one is the world's largest cricket stadium. "The world’s largest cricket stadium at Ahmedabad with a capacity to host 1.10 lakh fans is likely to be ready to host its first match by March. The new Sardar Patel stadium can seat more fans than Australia’s Melbourne Cricket Ground which has a capacity of just over a lakh," says the Gujarat government.
The Gujarat Cricket Council has executed this prestigious project.
Besides having three pitches that are of different varieties, this stadium has got advanced drainage facilities in place. If it rains heavily during a match, the entire stadium can be dried within 30 minutes. This will prevent the cancellation of matches.
The first match will take place in March.
