Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje - A Box Office super hit of 1955, this V.Shantaram's directorial featuring Sandhya and dancer Gopi Krishna was one of the earlier Technicolor films made in India. The film bagged the Filmfare Best Movie Award.
Navrang - Another dance musical came from V.Shantaram, which also starred Sandhya along with Mahipal and was known for its colourful dance sequences. Remember, Sandhya's innovative dance number where she dons the getups of both male and female...? The film won Filmfare Awards for Best Editing and Best Sound, while V.Shantaram was nominated.
Naache Mayuri - Directed by T. Rama Rao, this 1986 movie is a dance biopic on classical dancer-actress Sudha Chandran. This is a remake of Telugu film, 'Mayuri' (1984). The story revolves around a dance passionate Mayuri, who loses her leg in an accident. With the aid of a prosthetic Jaipur leg, she takes up dancing again with full determination and achieves success.
Dil Toh Pagal Hai - Directed by Yash Chopra, this superhit romantic dance musical of 1997 is not only memorable for its beautiful chemistry between the lead stars - Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit and Karisma Kapoor - but also for its foot-tapping dance numbers, choreographed by ace dance guru Shaimak Davar and Farah Khan. Remember, the "Dance of Envy" song, which has face-off between Karisma and Madhuri.... It is said that Karisma had to practice very hard to compete with the dancing diva Madhuri, to prove that she's better dancer on screen.
Taal - How can one forget Subhash Ghai's popular 1999 romantic musical which had music maestro AR Rahman and dance guru Shaimak Davar behind the lens while the gorgeous Aishwarya Rai grooving impressively in front?
Devdas - Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 2002 'Devdas' - starring Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai and Madhuri Dixit - boasts of a huge list of success stories. Besides being Box Office King, it grabbed maximum awards and acclaims, among which includes for its dance sequences which were grand, colourful and highly impressive.
Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi - A 2008 hit romantic drama, this Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer mainly highlights the relationship of newly wedded couple. At the same time, the film is heavily laced with the 'dance' flavour - given the fact that Anushka's character is passionate about dancing.
Chance Pe Dance - Starring dancing star Shahid Kapoor and cute Genelia D'Souza, this Ken Ghosh's 2010 box office dud was said to be inspired from Hollywood's flicks 'Step Up' and 'School of Rock'. However, it is remembered for the fantastic moves and grooves of Shahid.
ABCD & ABCD 2 - Touted as India's first 3D Dance movie, Remo D'Souza's 'ABCD' turned out to be surprise hit at the box office - leading to its sequel now. Titled 'ABCD 2', the trailer is already receiving good response and it stars fresh lead cast, including Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor, along with Lauren Gottlieb, Prabhudheva and Dharmesh Yelande from the earlier version.
