Congress president Rahul Gandhi has asserted that come what may, the Congress Party would never allow precipitation/disintegration of India and would fight tooth and nail in this regard.
Rahul was in Chennai yesterday to honour DMK president M.K. Stalin’s invitation to him to attend the unveiling of a bronze statue in memory of the departed DMK president and former Tamil Nadu chief-minister M. Karunanidhi. Stalin made it a grand event and ensured the participation of the chief-ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Puducherry besisdes Rahul Gandhi at the event.
Rahul praised Karunanidhi as the one who possessed the ‘voice of the people’ at all times. “Karunanidhi had sacrificed the whole of his life for the welfare of Tamils and for the future of the State,” Rahul added. He also took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, albeit indirectly, by stating that politicians of the day would do well to take a leaf out of Karunanidhi’s book of remaining simple and humble. “I’m thankful to Karunanidhi for teaching me to remain humble,” he pointed out.
“Today’s BJP rulers feel only one ideology ought to be practised in the country which is against the tenets of our Constitution. We would never allow the precipitation of the country and would fight hard to save independent institutions such as the Reserve Bank of India and the Election Commission of India,” he said and concluded by stating that Tamils’ views on most matters reflected the vision of the entire world.
