Warner Bros. on Thursday announced that its superhero movie 'Wonder Woman 1984' will release in theaters and stream exclusively on HBO Max on December 25. The Christmas release is the first-ever simultaneous OTT-theatrical release in Hollywood. "Available on HBO Max in the US only at no extra cost to subscribers," the studio clarified.
A commentator has said that the film is arguably the biggest project to ever debut in home and in theaters on the same day. Made on a budget of $200 million, the awaited superhero movie will hit the screens in other countries on December 16. So, it's an early release outside the US.
Variety has quoted filmmaker Patty Jenkins as saying this: “We love our movie as we love our fans, so we truly hope that our film brings a little bit of joy and reprieve to all of you this holiday season."
The OTT-theatre release for Christmas has created a lot of interest around the world. Will this model become the new normal?
For the first time ever, #WonderWoman1984 will release in theaters and stream exclusively on @HBOmax* on December 25.
