A venomous snake recently killed a Chinese woman in Beijing. This is news because the victim had ordered her killer on an online platform! She was intending to make traditional snake wine with her killer.
Aged 21, the woman hails from Shaanxi, a northern province in China. It was a many-banded krait that had bitten her.
As per newspaper reports, the victim had bought the snake from a seller in the locality where the venomous reptile is endemic. The online platform on which she ordered the snake is not under strict scrutiny by legal authorities. That's why wildlife trade couldn't be prevented in time.
Moreover, the courier company which delivered the order was not aware that it was a snake that was inside the package!
Why on earth did she need the snake? For a medical use. Through a process, snakes are put in alcohol and a beverage is made using some traditional techniques. The beverage possesses an "invigorating effect", a report says.
Even eight days after biting the women, the snake was lurking in the premises of her house.
